How to spot a genuine seller before you pay

Five checks every buyer should run — from verification badges to meeting in safe, public locations.
Most trades on Falogis end well because both sides did simple, sensible checks before money changed hands. The few that go wrong usually share the same warning signs: pressure to pay quickly, a price that makes no sense, and a seller who avoids straight answers. Here are five checks any buyer can run in a few minutes.
1. Read the storefront, not just the listing
A single listing tells you very little. A Falogis storefront tells you much more: how long the seller has been active, how many items they currently have listed, the state and LGA they operate from, and whether their business details are complete. Sellers who have taken the time to build a proper storefront, with a business name, address and working contact channels, have far more to lose from a bad trade than someone with one hurried post.
2. Understand what the badges actually mean
A Verified badge on Falogis means the account or business passed our checks at the time of review. It is a useful signal, not a guarantee of any particular transaction. Treat verification the way you would treat a shop with a signboard and a fixed address: it raises confidence, but you still inspect what you are buying.
3. Ask questions that need real answers
- Where exactly is the item now, and can I see it today?
- Is this the actual photo of the item, or a stock picture?
- What is the condition — new, foreign used, Nigerian used or refurbished?
- Who covers delivery, and what happens if the item arrives damaged?
- Can we complete this face to face in a public place?
A genuine seller answers these easily. Vague answers, constant excuses or a sudden switch to a different phone number are reasons to slow down, not to hurry.
4. Test the price against reality
Search Falogis for the same item and compare three or four similar listings. Prices vary by condition and location, but an offer far below every comparable listing is a signal, not a bargain. Ask yourself why a seller would deliberately lose money on an item that other people are queuing to buy.
5. Inspect before you pay, and keep a record
Wherever possible, meet in a busy, public location during daylight, bring someone with you, and inspect the item fully — power it on, check serial numbers, open the packaging, count the parts. Keep your chat history, the listing link and any receipt. If something feels wrong at any point, walk away; there will always be another listing.
